This Volunteer Rescue organization proudly serves the residents and visitors of the Byron Shire in general land and marine rescue. The Byron shire covers and area from Wooyong in the north to Newrybar in the south, out to Nashua in the west and up in the hills behind Mullumbimby. This primary response organisation, assists in the release of people trapped in motor vehicles and trucks, assists in rural, industrial and domestic accidents and vertical rescue. We don't forget the animals either, whether they be four legged or those that fly, we rescue them all. We in fact assist the Police on any task they request, eg, body recovery, crime scene lighting and crime scene searches.

We don't normally get involved in storm and tempest and flood evacuation, however, we do assist the SES in these matters when requested.

Our marine rescue vessel is responsible for the area between Hastings Point in the north to Lennox Head to the south and 7 nautical miles to sea, although we can go further providing the conditions are reasonable and the skipper recommends it, with the approval of the Water Police.

To support our rescue boat on operations and the general boating community, we have a Marine Radio Base tower situated on the southern wall of the Brunswick River.

Our mission is to provide the very best rescue service that is available to those in desperate circumstances, generally through no fault of their own. We baulk at nothing, this service is provided 7 days a week 24 hours a day, raining or fine. we have been on scene for up to 6 hours doing what we are trained for, with no regard to our own circumstances whether they are family or work, We work hard at fund raising as not much funding comes from governments, we hold golf days, bowls days, raffles and there are some very generous donees in the shire.
